Cost Estimation of Next Generation Processes

How do new processes impact cost? Change cost profile Might Increase productivity Degree to which one must change how estimate depends on When estimating What estimating How embedded software is in a larger system

For early lifecycle embedded system or subsystem level estimates basic model with minor adjustments works fine Change cost profile Might Increase productivity

In the NASA environment I have found that the Main estimates are required early in lifecycle Requirements only known at high level and can expect significant volatility Typically estimating evolutionary changes off of well known domains Impact of ‘NASA’s way of doing business greatly reduces impact of new processes Cost profile changes Any productivity changes can be dealt with by calibration of existing model Exception might be if need to estimate at low level with highly iterative builds
