Desired Short-term Outcomes Before 31 December 2015, Cuba student chapter to submit application for formal creation. Path Forward ACS Office of Public Affairs will work with SCQ to develop Science & the Congress briefing on current & future state of Cuban science and technology. ACS to cover travel & lodging for two SCQ leaders to participate in Science & the Congress briefing. American Chemical Society

Communicate with ACS technical divisions and SCQ counterparts to explore mutual interests, joint symposia, instrument/equipment donation, collaboration and other exchange opportunities. Desired Short-term Outcomes By 15 November 2015 – SCQ to provide list of Cuban technical interests. By 31 December 2015, ACS President will communicate with ACS divisions asking for their engagement with SCQ. Path Forward Determine interest/support for sustained funding for an ACS-SCQ Eliel Scholars/Fellow/Symposia program. Identify funding sources for “Extreme Classroom Makeover” at the University of Havana, dedicated to Dr. Eliel, in time for Latin America International Chemistry Olympiad – July 2016. Desired Short-term Outcomes By 15 November 2015 – ACS & SCQ send joint letter to FLAQ to gauge interest in the Eliel initiative and whether any 2016 CLAQ symposia can be held in Dr. Eliel’s honor.
