Monday 27th February – Friday 2nd March Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 Monday 27th February – Friday 2nd March

Fairtrade Fortnight begins next week As a school we will all be learning about Fairtrade in our classes Let’s watch a video to learn more about why it is important to support Fairtrade

Samuel’s Story https://vimeo.com/251291385

Why is it important to support Fairtrade? When you buy Fairtrade products you support the workers to get a fair amount of money for their work and improve their lives.

Which rights are we helping the farmers and their families to get by supporting them?

Article 3 The best interests of the child must be a top priority in all things that affect children.

Article 24 Right to the best possible health care. They must be provided with clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so they can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries to achieve this.

Article 27 Every child has the right to an adequate standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical, social and mental needs.

Article 28 Right to an education Article 28 Right to an education. Wealthy countries should help poorer countries to achieve this.

Article 29 Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage children’s respect for human rights as well as respect for their parents, their own cultures and the environment.

Article 31 Every child has the right to rest, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

Article 32 The government should protect children from work that is dangerous or might harm their health and education.

Global Goals Fairtrade also helps us to learn about our Global Goals Which Global Goals do you think are most relevant to Fairtrade?

Fairtrade Competition For the next week we will be running a Fairtrade competition in school. We want to see which class can collect the most Fairtrade wrappers. If you have any empty wrappers or boxes with the Fairtrade mark on them at home bring them to Mrs Sutherland’s class You will get a Fairtrade token from Mrs Sutherland which you can then put onto your house display next to your golden tokens. On Friday the 2nd of March the Fairtrade group will count the tokens and the winning classes from P1&2, P3&4 and 5,6 & 7 will get an extra playtime the following week.
