His Mercy Is More
What love could remember Omniscient all knowing No wrongs we have done Omniscient all knowing He counts not their sum
Without bottom or shore Thrown into a sea Without bottom or shore Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness Praise the Lord His mercy is more Stronger than darkness New every morn
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
What patience would wait As we constantly roam What Father so tender Is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest The vilest the poor Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness Praise the Lord His mercy is more Stronger than darkness New every morn
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
What riches of kindness His blood was the payment He lavished on us His blood was the payment His life was the cost
We stood 'neath a debt We could never afford Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness Praise the Lord His mercy is more Stronger than darkness New every morn
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness Praise the Lord His mercy is more Stronger than darkness New every morn
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Our sins they are many His mercy is more

Recognizing the Danger When we are in Christ, we are no longer motivated by selfishness but by the selflessness in Christ.
Jude 11–16 11 Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.
Jude 11–16 12 These are the men who are hidden reefs in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;
Jude 11–16 13 wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever. 14 It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones,
Jude 11–16 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
Jude 11–16 16 These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage.
Recognizing the Danger Churches that put nice, acceptable, relevant, popular, trending, financially viable, and pleasant ahead of holiness and godliness are not contending for the faith but compromising with the world.
Sermon in a Sentence To contend for the faith: 1) we must recognize the ungodly motives of the intruders (11); 2) we must recognize the ungodly imposters pose a present danger (12–13); 3) we must believe the danger is eternally serious (14–15), and 4) we must know true believers delight in God and exist for Christ’s glory.
Recognizing the Danger 1. We must recognize the ungodly motives of the intruders (11).
Recognizing the Danger “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth.” Rev 8:13
Recognizing the Danger The secret invaders are headed for an unspeakable destruction because they are motived not by the selflessness of Christ but by the arrogance of self.
Recognizing the Danger The way of Cain then, is the way of anger and bitterness. The intruders “walk” in this way; an angry, sarcastic, bitter, and superior disposition characterizes their lives.
Recognizing the Danger Like Balaam, the secret invaders of the church are not motivated by the pure word of God or care for God’s people. They are motivated by greed – either financial, social, political or other personal gain.
Recognizing the Danger By mentioning Korah, Jude again highlights the sin of rebellion. These intruders are marked by a disregard for godly authority and accountability in their life.
Recognizing the Danger 2. We must recognize that ungodly imposters pose a present danger (12–13).
Recognizing the Danger In vv. 12–13, uses five metaphors to describe the secret invaders – hidden reefs, waterless clouds, fruitless trees, wild waves, and wandering stars.
Recognizing the Danger When Jude says the gospel intruders are hidden reefs, he is saying they are destructive.
Recognizing the Danger Jude then says the imposters are like waterless clouds blown away by the wind. They leave us disappointed.
Recognizing the Danger “The one who boasts about a gift that does not exist is like clouds and winds without rain.” Prov 25:14
Recognizing the Danger Appearing to bring the refreshing water of the Word, they blow past once they have taken what they want, preying on others as they move on” (Akin, 169).
Recognizing the Danger Jude then says the imposters are “autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted.”
Recognizing the Danger They have no fruit because they have not been changed at the root – they are doubly dead (13).
Recognizing the Danger “The wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.” Isaiah 57:20
Recognizing the Danger “They are stars, but not shining where God has commanded them, but wandering or erring stars” (Davids, 74).
Recognizing the Danger 3. We must believe the danger is eternally serious (14–15).
Recognizing the Danger God’s coming judgment of those who invade churches is not a matter to be taken lightly – the church is putting herself in danger if she does not stand firm in her convictions and continues to associate with people teaching and living a false gospel.
Recognizing the Danger The need to contend for the faith as cultures and so-called Christians seek to water it down is not a surprise; it has been predicted from the beginning.
Recognizing the Danger Their coming judgment is not only predicted. It is proper – they are ungodly, their actions are ungodly, their methods and motives are ungodly. They are not repentant sinners but ungodly sinners who have spoken with their lives and their mouths against the Lord.
Recognizing the Danger 4. We must know true believers delight in God and exist for Christ’s glory.
Recognizing the Danger If the mark of a secret invader is someone who grumbles, finds fault, does what they want, speaks boastfully, and flatters people to gain and advantage, how can we proactively contend for the faith?
Recognizing the Danger By God’s grace we are and will continue to become a church that prizes and lives out the gospel – not grumbling but delighting in His goodness and laying down our lives, privileges, and preferences is necessary for the glory of Christ and the good of our neighbors and all nations.
My Jesus I Love Thee
For Thee all the follies My Jesus I love Thee I know Thou art mine For Thee all the follies Of sin I resign
My Gracious Redeemer My Savior art Thou If ever I loved Thee My Jesus ‘tis now
Thou hast first loved me And purchased my pardon I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me And purchased my pardon On Calvary’s tree
I love Thee for wearing The thorns on Thy brow If ever I loved Thee My Jesus ‘tis now

My hope is built On nothing less Than Jesus' blood And righteousness
I dare not trust The sweetest frame But wholly trust In Jesus' Name

Lord I Need You
Lord I come I confess Bowing here I find my rest
And without You I fall apart You're the one That guides my heart
Lord I need You Oh I need You Every hour I need You
My one defense My righteousness Oh God How I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more Where grace is found Is where You are
And where You are Lord I am free Holiness is Christ in me
Where You are Lord I am free Holiness is Christ in me
Lord I need You Oh I need You Every hour I need You
My one defense My righteousness Oh God How I need You
So teach my song To rise to You When temptation Comes my way
And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus You’re My hope and stay And when I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus You’re My hope and stay
Lord I need You Oh I need You Every hour I need You
My one defense My righteousness Oh God How I need You
My one defense My righteousness Oh God How I need You
