Presentation transcript:

When was the last time you did a physical examination in a clinic When was the last time you did a physical examination in a clinic? Did you remember the feeling when you take the first sight of your test report? you feel a little bit nervous because there is a “hypercalcemia” and “vitamin D deficiency” in your blood reports, but no one tells you what the test names meaning are. So you’d like to do research and google these terms to figure out. But all the items look so complicated and it seems nothing related to your test result. Well, you’re not alone. In America, over 2 million times of medical terms were searched every day for understanding the physical test reports. There is a lot of online information available about these terms, but none of these are tailored to people’s personal condition.

Auto-Analysis? In our lab, Center for Biomedical Data and Language Processing, we’re trying to process the documents by computers. How can we make sure the content from computer is correct and complete? How can we make people do not have to wait for the doctor’s reply? How can we make everyone used our tool conveniently? And we find out the way is to use a smartphone in your pocket. We integrated the computer programming technology into the medical domain, and developed an automatic document processing system.

Cloud Server Mobile Device Patients Electronic Report for Patients What do you expect from the system? First, you can take a picture of your physical test report. Our system will scan your document and find the abnormal test result from your report. Thanks to our database, a personalized report will be generated based on your special condition. Because the contents of the report are from textbooks, journals and professional doctors, you never have to worry about it is fake or incorrect. For patients, it can change the way we learn medical knowledge and get personalized advice from computers, instead of doctors. Electronic Report for Patients Intelligent Analysis

VS 93.5% 94.3% ✔Automatic Transcribed ✔Sent to Alex’s phone Let’s look at the system in a broader view, because it is much more useful for a medical institution. The first advantage is that it’s a computer program. For medical institutions, the program can process photos as many as they can in a short time. Of course, it is much faster than a human transcriber. Another advantage is accuracy. The scanning accuracy is not 100% correct, but it is still slightly better than human transcribers. The overall accuracy in our program is 94.3%, while the human transcribes an average accuracy of 93.5%. These advantages may make human transcribers lose their jobs. (XD). The cost of maintenance is much less than hiring a transcriber, and we’re saving money for medical institutions. From the paper report to electronic reports, the data storage and transportation is much easier, which is another target of medical institutions. For institutions, it can change the way they type data, change the workflow, and give doctors a better environment to focus on patients. 93.5% 94.3%

(Slide 5) From our service, we think the computer could achieve the analysis end-to-end from medical institutions to patients. The analysis task can be finished automatically and quickly, and what patients need to do is take a photo, check their personalized report from the phone, and get the latest updates about their examination from the clinics. Thank you!
