Probability – Expectation – Worksheet A In this activity students repeat an experiment 25/50 times and record the ‘wins’ and ‘losses’. The worksheets are in a variety of sizes and formatted for flipping a coin, spinning a spinner, and a universal sheet for any experiment. Templates for spinners are included. Students should stick them to cardboard and pierce the centre with a pencil.

Printing To print handouts from slides - Select the slide from the left. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Current Slide’ To print multiple slides - Click on a section title to highlight all those slides, or press ‘Ctrl’ at the same time as selecting slides to highlight more than one. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Selection’ To print double-sided handouts - Highlight both slides before using ‘Print Selection’. Choose ‘Print on Both Sides’ and ‘Flip on Short Edge’.

What is the probability of this happening? 50 flips, all landing on heads. Same as winning the lottery twice in a row. 8.9x10-16, 1 in 1 Quadrillion (15 zeros)

Glue the spinner to some cardboard. Cut the spinner out. Pierce the centre with a pen or pencil (Be careful!)

What can we say about this spinner? How could we work out the probability of winning?
