Genetically modified organism GMO Genetically modified organism

What is GMO? It stand for Genetically Modified Organism DEFINITION: use of modern biotechnology techniques to change the genes of an organism, such as a plant or animal.

Process of Genetic modification in Plants Desired DNA is inserted into bacterial DNA The bacteria replicates the desired DNA with its own DNA Scientists use a restriction enzyme to cut the desired DNA from the bacterial DNA Desired DNA is inserted into target organism Target organism now has the desired DNA trait The result is a Transgenic specie. Trans = across and genic = Gene Bill Nye

Examples of genetic engineering

Process of Genetic modification in Plants Desired DNA (foreign) is inserted into a fertilized egg nucleus Modified fertilized egg is inserted back into the female for gestation Only small percentage survive This is also a transgenic animal.
