teamwork Teamwork = many professionals with different levels of education, ideas, backgrounds, and interests working together for the benefit of the patient Teamwork improves communication and continuity of care Continuity of Care = quality of care over time. It is the process by which the patient and his/her physician-led care team are cooperatively involved in ongoing health care management toward the shared goal of high quality, cost-effective medical care.

teamwork For a team to function properly, every person on the team must understand the role of each team member. A leader is an important part of any team, but should be cageful to not abuse the position as this can destroy the team and cause harm to the patient or other cause for which the team was created. Conflict among individuals with different personalities is the main problem that can occur when a group of people is working as a team. When conflict occurs, it is essential for each member of the team to find a positive way to work through the conflict.

teamwork Legal responsibilities are another important aspect of teamwork. Each member of the team must be aware of the legal limitations on the duties that the team can perform. All members must function within legal boundaries.

teamwork SUMMARY Effective teams are the result of hard work, patience, commitment, and practice. When each individual participates fully in the team and makes every effort to contribute to the team, the team WILL achieve success.
