17 / 10 Tuesday Kaupapa: Describe some of the major biological differences between plants and animals

Do you remember? How do you tell whether something is living or non-living? What are MRS GREN?

Living or non-living?

The Seven functions of Living Things All living things can do the following seven life functions so they can survive: Movement Respiration Sensitivity Growth Reproduction Excretion Nutrition MRS GREN !!

Plants vs. Animals

Discuss in pairs With the pictures you’ve got, answer the following questions: What colour are they? How do they move? How do they respond to its surrounding (i.e. how do they sense things?) How do they get food? Discuss what they found: brainstorm ideas on board

Plant or Animal Animals Plants

Plant or Animal Animals Plants Are mobile and/or can move limbs Are fixed or floating, some parts move slowly Obtain food by eating plants or other animals Make their own food by photosynthesis Have some sort of sense/nerve system Have no nerve system Have sense organs (eyes, ears, etc.) Have no special sense organs Respond rapidly to stimulus Respond slowly to stimulus Can be any colour Are mostly green

What have we learned today? Describe three differences between plants and animals
