Project and Purpose Integration of whiteboard technology, into an ED special education classroom with hands on opportunities, to stimulate academic growth and positive social interactions among peers.

Classroom Usage To integrate technology into all subject areas based on state of Ohio benchmarks and grade level indicators to improve academic performance for all students.

Anticipated Results Improved classroom test scores. Improved social group interactions among ED students. Improved Ohio Achievement scores in Reading and Math for 3 rd grade.

Evaluation Methods Generate baseline data from district tests and compare to mid year and end of year scores in reading and in math prior to and after implementation. Compare beginning mid year and end of year behavior charts during group participation when using the whiteboard. Compare fall and spring reading scores for Ohio Reading Achievement Test for 3 rd grade

Timeline Purchase ASAP. Complete baseline testing in September. Three weeks of teacher training. Mid-year district testing, compare to baseline. End of year district testing, compare to mid-year and baseline.

Continuation & Extension Upgrades to software as they become available. Provide professional training for peer teachers. Purchase whiteboards for other classrooms. Demonstrate to parents about whiteboards during outside classroom activities such as Open House.

Limitations Need additional software for future applications. Need time to understand the technology before using with class. Emotionally disturbed students who often become physically violent and may abuse the equipment.

My Qualifications BS in Psychology Clarion University of PA 1991 Post Bach Elem Ed. 1-8 University of Akron 1996 Post Bach Special Ed. Moderate to Intensive University of Akron 2001 Masters Instructional Technology University of Akron (anticipated graduation spring 2010) 10 years successful classroom experience with ED students. Two-time building teacher of the year.

Purpose Statement Integrating technology today allows us to compete globally now and in the future. It will increase test scores and student learning. It is very motivating for students who need hands on activities and positional changes to make academic progress.
