Private Networks

Private Networks: Different Networks Point to Point Frame Relay/ ATM Private Network- MPLS Virtual Private Network (VPN) Hardware/ Software Based Network IP VPN

Point to Point An uninterrupted connection between one piece of equipment and another. Private connection between Point A and Point B. Also known as Tie lines and Leased Circuits.

Point to Point Diagram

Frame Relay A broadband (64 Kbps to 1.544 Mbps) high-speed packet-based data switching interface standard that transmits bursts of data over wide area networks (WANs). Frame relay packets vary in length from 7 to 1024 bytes.

Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) A virtual permanent connection within a frame relay cloud. Configured in terms of CIR, or Committed Information Rate.

Committed Information Rate (CIR) In a frame relay network, each permanent virtual circuit (PVC) is assigned a CIR, measured in bits per second (bps). The CIR is the average capacity that the port connection should allocate to the PVC. This rate proportional to the expected average traffic volume between the two sites that the PVC connects. The CIR assigned to a PVC cannot exceed the speed of either port connection.

NetFortris Private Network + Internet

Virtual Private Network (VPN) VPNs are services using public network facilities augmented by network control point and service  management system facilities wherein traffic is routed through the public network under computer control in a manner that makes VPN service indistinguishable from dedicated facilities based private networks. Customers can define, change and control network resources with the same or more flexibility as afforded by facilities based private networks. “A VPN is the creation of a highly secure, point –to-point connection over the Public Internet. Users make local connections to the Internet Service Provider(ISP), saving on long distance or expensive distance-based digital services, then data is transmitted over the Internet. Your data is encrypted, and the router can support both multiple VPN tunnels and normal open Internet access at the same time.” IPVPNs: Carrier provides VPN tunneling for Customer (Network-based IPVPN). Customer does not need to purchase hardware or software to create VPN.
