IMMA proposal for rev. 1 of ASEP 2.0 09.07.2019

current R41 WOT-test Lmax 100 vmax @ BB‘ [%], [km/h] v @ Lmax nPP‘ throttle operation speed / rpm nPP‘ vtest n @ Lmax +/- 1 kph approach AA‘ at constant speed PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ measurement area

IMMA proposal presented at 12th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2. 0 rev IMMA proposal presented at 12th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2.0 rev.0 (example 1) „any throttle“ 100 [%], [km/h] Lmax throttle operation speed / rpm vmax / nmax nPP‘ vtest approach AA‘ at constant speed +/- 1 kph PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ measurement area „real driving“ area

IMMA proposal presented at 12th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2. 0 rev IMMA proposal presented at 12th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2.0 rev.0 (example 2) „any throttle“ 100 [%], [km/h] Lmax throttle operation speed / rpm vmax / nmax / nPP‘ vtest approach AA‘ at constant speed +/- 1 kph PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ measurement area „real driving“ area

IMMA proposal presented at 11th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2. 0 rev IMMA proposal presented at 11th IWG ASEP (China) ASEP 2.0 rev.0 „any throttle“ Formal & informal feedback from IWG ASEP Stakeholders: ‘any throttle’: Lack of repeatability in testing Difficulty in demonstrating the vehicle operation was in accordance with the instructions given by the TS personnel throughout the test. Number of test points Principle agreement on: Expanded speed & rpm window Any gear (See ASEP-11-05 & ASEP-11-06)

Revised IMMA ASEP 2.0  ASEP 2.0 rev. 1 the revised procedure „splits“ the test in two phases Pre-measurement area before AA’ (NEW) measurement area  between AA’ and BB’ Pre-measurement area: Any throttle operation, to reflect vehicle operation close to real driving conditions Current R41-04 requires only constant approach speed (fixed speed) Before AA‘ the motorcycle can vary its velocity „significantly“ prescribed test speed vtest at AA‘ +/- [ 5 ]km/h measurement area: similar to current Annex 7 test, but with the possibility to apply: WOT Any partial, constant throttle (including constant speed) „real driving“

Revised IMMA ASEP 2.0  ASEP 2.0 rev. 1 basic description of the procedure for the additional ASEP test points (the two reference points will continue to follow the procedure as prescribed in R41.04) the vehicle may approach AA’ in acceleration, deceleration or at constant speed – at the request of the technical service the technical service may prescribe a specific throttle pattern, which shall be followed by the rider as close as possible before AA’ – however, deviations from that pattern shall be accepted as long as the pattern is followed in principle and the vehicle approaches AA’ in the prescribed operation condition (accel., decel., constant) and at the prescribed speed vtest at AA’ the vehicle speed shall be the prescribed vtest +/-[5]kph when passing AA’ the throttle shall be brought to the prescribed position as rapidly as possible, and shall be kept in this position until the vehicle passes BB’ the throttle shall be adjusted by the rider as close as possible to the prescribed position – however, deviations from that throttle position shall be accepted, as long as the principle vehicle operation is present (i.e. low, medium, high or full acceleration) the fact that such a test run cannot be reproduced in exactly the same way implies that the maximum sound pressure level for this condition is determined by a single test run when passing BB’ the throttle control shall be shifted to the idle position as rapidly as possible

Revised IMMA ASEP 2.0  ASEP 2.0 rev. 1 how to handle CoP and market surveillance the two reference points can be tested exactly with the same vehicle operation conditions as they had been applied for type approval  repeatability is given to prove compliance with the provisions of 6.3.1 (“…shall not intentionally alter, adjust, or introduce any device or procedure solely for the purpose of fulfilling the noise emission requirements…”) the “mystery point” concept is applied to the additional ASEP tests; to prove compliance it is not essential to reproduce exactly the conditions which had been applied at type approval for the additional ASEP test points; any other conditions within the ASEP control range may be applied  repeatability not necessary, due to “mystery point” concept in addition to the ASEP test protocol the vehicle manufacturer has to provide a declaration about the compliance with the provisions of 6.3.1  responsibility for compliance of the vehicle in all other vehicle conditions, which were not part of the ASEP tests, remains at the manufacturer

ASEP 2.0 rev.1 (example 1) „split-test“ Lmax 100 vmax @ BB‘ [%], [km/h] v @ Lmax throttle operation speed / rpm nPP‘ n @ Lmax approach AA‘ at variable speed vtest +/- [ 5 ] km/h PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ pre-measurement area measurement area „real driving“

ASEP 2.0 rev.1 (example 2) „split-test“ Lmax throttle operation speed / rpm vmax @ BB‘ 100 v @ Lmax [%], [km/h] nPP‘ n @ Lmax vtest +/- [ 5 ] km/h approach AA‘ at variable speed PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ pre-measurement area measurement area „real driving“

ASEP 2.0 rev.1 (example 3) „split-test“ Lmax v @ Lmax vmax @ BB‘ 100 [%], [km/h] nPP‘ throttle operation speed / rpm n @ Lmax vtest +/- [ 5 ] km/h approach AA‘ at variable speed PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ pre-measurement area measurement area „real driving“

ASEP 2.0 rev.1 (example 4) „split-test“ 100 [%], [km/h] throttle operation speed / rpm Lmax v @ Lmax vmax @ BB‘ nPP‘ approach AA‘ at variable speed n @ Lmax vtest +/- [ 5 ] km/h PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ pre-measurement area measurement area „real driving“

ASEP 2.0 rev.1 (example 5) „split-test“ throttle operation speed / rpm 100 Lmax [%], [km/h] vtest nPP‘ +/- [ 5 ] km/h n @ Lmax approach AA‘ at variable speed PP‘ BB‘ AA‘ pre-measurement area measurement area „real driving“
