Innovation Design approach SPECTRUM Innovation Going from a colour blind approach towards a colour conscious approach in parenting. SPECTRUM facilitates a dialogue between adults and young children to discuss a complex and sensitive issue like racism. Providing a trigger to start the conversation and a way to talk openly and in different perspectives. Design approach The game is developed by different creative inputs. Designers, game designers and experts were involved in creation. Parents and schools are involved by evaluating prototypes and providing input.

Relation to the urbanscape Scaling up prospects SPECTRUM Relation to the urbanscape The project aims to involve institutions like schools, libraries, municipalities and anti-discrimination organisations to reach the target users. Through the relevance of the topic it responds to the needs of citizens valuing diversity and contributing to a good cultural vibe, in specific parents and teachers. Scaling up prospects SPECTRUM stimulates open conversations about race and race-related issues, to get rid of the tensions around the topic. For children this is a great contribution to their future skills, an educational value. Seeing SPECTRUM as a conversation tool for complex and sensitive topics (1) other topics can be implemented (gender, sexism, etc.) (2) the game could be modified to an adult version, using the design principles of creating an open conversation. The underlying innovation can be adopted by a small number of people and does not require complex relations with other actors and stakeholders.
