VISION

Vision Vision is our dominant sense Why?

Visual System 3 parts of the visual system: 1. The EYE 2. Visual PATHWAYS 3. Visual CORTEX

VISION TERMS RETINA: lining of the eye, contains receptor cells

Vision terms RODS: receptors that respond to light and dark, not color CONES: Allow us to see colors AND light/dark

Vision Terms FOVEA: center of the visual field packed with cones. Sharpest vision PERIPHERY: edges of the retina—side vision (peripheral) BLIND SPOT: area of the retina that contains no receptors because it is where the axons leave the eye to go to the brain

Vision Terms OPTIC NERVE: bundle of axons that takes visual messages to the brain VISUAL CORTEX: part of the cerebral cortex that interprets vision VISIBLE SPECTRUM: the small segment of electromagnetic light that we are able to see
