The Fine Art of Arguing

What is argumentative writing? Argument/persuasive writing is a chance to get people to think the way you do about something. Some common forms of persuasion are: advertisements and even a simple letter.

Name Calling Giving an idea a negative label Used to make us reject and criticize something without even really thinking about it first.

NAME CALLING EXAMPLES:

Glittering! Used to make us accept and approve something without really thinking about it first. Often “virtue words” are used Examples of virtue words: best, new, love, improved, baby, science, dentist, doctor, expert, health.

Transfer Carries the authority and reputation of someone respected over to merchandise in order to make the product acceptable. An example of this would be, “Dermatologist recommended.”
