OSHA MKT-AFM-3 Students will identify major laws that regulate and/or impact the fashion industry.

Elements (b) Describe laws that regulate the fashion industry What is OSHA? What does it stand for? What is its purpose?

OSHA Stands for the Occupational Safety, and Health Administration Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to: assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

OSHA Coverage The OSH act covers: employers and their employees either directly through federal OSHA or through an OSHA-approved state program. State programs must meet or exceed federal OSHA standards for workplace safety and health.

Using the link below: http://www.osha.gov/law-regs.html You will locate an OSHA standard, read it and write a brief summary of it. Turn it in.

Example: An employer wants to know if an employee must remove “street clothing” before putting on protective clothing when working in a Class 1 asbestos environment. Standard 1926.1101(j)(1)(ii)(B) – topic of street clothing An employee is allowed to wear “street clothing” underneath a protective suite. (Given the amount of exposure to asbestos)
