LS3 Study & Readiness Meetings Motivations and need for this set of Meetings: C&S Review asked us to start the definition of a “Draft0” for the LS3 Activity Plan at IR1 and IR5 (that will start with the machine equipment dismantling) We have to present an adequate 1st version of this “Draft0” at the next C&SR (Nov 2019!)  We need to circulate it in the Project and Departments by June 2019 Furthermore, some critical activities following the dismantling need management/contractual decisions that must be analyze and taken soon. They are: the de-cabling (it will be a quite long activity, we have to study/decide the best approach for that) cores openings for SLink and RF CC feeding (the CE contracts for that are not yet defined) We will need to optimize the dismantling planning, studying the parallel and co- activities since this will impact on time duration and global resources (money and staff). LS3 Study & Readiness Meetings Expected targets and outcome from these Meetings: Not expected to have many recurrent meetings for each WP (at least for now) Meetings should not cover too much technical details but: Collect and discuss the boundary conditions and input that will impact on dismantling (e.g. RP safety aspects, transports limitation and logistic aspects, parallelism, cohabitation and eventual synergies of activities, etc.) Collect any info that will be necessary to start the work on the “Draft0” planning (i.e. the correct setting of activities and sub-activities: parallel and co-activities of different WPs or different teams inside a WP; etc.) Check the readiness of: dismantling procedures, special tooling procurement (and staff resources availability for that task), transport tooling procurement (and staff resources availability for that task), note-down any eventual existing open issue that needs study and any other activity, study, actions to be launched and when( ACTIONS LIST) Keep track of the planned/launched actions M. LS3 Study & Readiness Meetings Some collected info from WP5: Object Location Given by Date Description WP5 Collimators IP1-IP5 Inigo 02/07/2018 As of today there are 21 collimators in total, P1 Left has 6 collimators and all the others have 5 each. The collimators are removed in two steps, the first is quick and it consists on the removal of the collimator itself; the second consists on the removal of the support. For the removal of the collimator, assuming that there is no object from BE-BI and nothing from the allignment, the first action is to de-consignate the collimator, then vacuum team opens the line, venting the sector, they remove the m-cat collar and they open the bellow. Then STI removes the plugs that hold the collimator and it is ready to be placed on the transport. The whole thing should take 1day per IP side (5 collimators), except for transport because only one can be taken out during each day. Considering the dismount of the supports, the first thing is to remove the water connections (there is one in and one out). It takes 1 hour per collimator. It is done by CV but mandated by STI. Then, the electric cables are removed from the distribution boxes to the collimator itself. It is about 5 meters of cables, times 6 cables per collimator. 1 hour per collimator should be enough. Then the support is unscrewed and taken out, which should take 1 hour. This means that the whole process takes 3 hours. There is no need for special transport of these equipments. Everything that concerns the collimators must be taken out in a non-destructive way. They will most likely be reused. So: about 1 week to empty one IP side. They can have up to 4 teams in parallel. LS3 Study & Readiness Meetings Some collected info from RP and Transport: Object Location Given by Date Description RP Collimators IP1-IP5 26/01/2018 With respect to the collimators, it is not clear that they should be the first to come out because of the high levels of radiation. It is true that it is quite easy to remove them, but before taking that as a fact a study must be conducted. They can be shielded temporarily and be removed at a later stage. Follow-up: Inigo says they do not have the experience of using a shield (example, the one used in TOTEM P5). Also, wouldn't it cause disturbances on transport? Cristina raised the topic of the storage of the collimators. With 5 collimators per point, there will be 20 collimators highly activated to store.
