Acid Nomenclature  Acids are an important class of hydrogen- containing compounds.  For now, an acid is defined as a substance that produces hydrogen.
NAMING ACIDS. Three rules can help you name an acid with the general formula H n X. The naming system depends on the name of the anion. Each of the rules.
1 Binary/Ternary Acid Nomenclature Binary Acids are acids made of two components. – Hydrogen and, – A single nonmetal (F, S, Cl, Se, Br, and I) Ternary.

CHEMICAL FORMULA WRITING & NAMING OF COMPOUNDS.
A quick primer. * Late next year, we will explore the full properties of acids, but for now: * Acids are ionic compounds that release H + ions into solution.
Naming Acids. binary All binary acids are named this way: "hydro"  the prefix "hydro" is used.  the root of the anion is used. "ic"  the suffix "ic"
Naming Compounds. All acids start with H (e.g. HCl, H 2 SO 4 ) 2 acids types exist: binary acids and oxyacids Binary: H + non-metal. E.g. HCl Oxy: H +
Unit 1 – Day 6 Naming Acids. Acids Acids are ionic compounds where hydrogen is the positive ion. All acids must be dissolved in water to have acidic properties.
Naming Acids and Bases. Bases contain an OH group C 6 H 12 O 6 does not have an OH group If an OH group is present it will be clearly indicated: e.g.
Acids and Bases And neutralization reactions. Acids and Bases An acid is a substance that produces hydrogen ions in solution. HCl  H + + Cl - A base.

I. Introduction to Acids & Bases Acids & Bases Properties.
 Acid  A compound that produces hydrogen ions (H + ) when dissolved in water  An ionic compound Cation = H + Anion = monatomic or polyatomic ions Only.
Acid Nomenclature. Traditional inorganic acids contain hydrogen combined with a negative ion. To name these compounds, apply the following rules: A. Binary.
Acids and Bases 3 definitions for acids and bases – Arrhenius – Bronsted-Lowry – Lewis Must be in solution – Most often dissolved in water (aqueous) Inorganic.
Acids and Bases. An acid is a compound that dissolves in water to form a solution with a pH lower than 7. A base is a compound that dissolves in water.

Is any substance that contain hydrogen Acids: Is any substance that contain hydrogen (H ) at the beginning of its formula and produce H+ (ions) in solution. Binary Acids (made by H + nonmetal) HCl (aq); HBr (aq). Acids Oxyacids (made by H + polyatomic anion) HNO3; H2SO4; H3PO3.

Naming binary acids: (Hydro + non metal (root) + ic) acid Hydro _______ic acid. Examples: HBr(aq) --- hydrobromic acid. HI(aq) --- hydroiodic acid.
