Leaf Compactor Hosea Jones & Jose Rodriguez Advisor: Rana Mitra Instructor: Cris Koutsougeras
Abstract A machine to take the work out of raking leaves. Lightweight Geared toward home owners Constraints: Cost Weight Storage
Problems to Solve Raking by hand is: Time consuming Unproductive Hazardous Disposal Driving to the dump Burning Other hazards Snakes Ticks Mold
Designs Design 1.) All in one backpack compactor/collector. Design 2.) 2 piece set backpack vacuum and stationary compactor. Design 3.) All in one pull-around compactor/collector.

Motor Peak Horsepower 2HP Air Volume (CFM) 50 Amperage (amps) 5 Voltage (volts) 12 Weight (lbs) 7
Motor Power = Current • Voltage (P=IV). With the given information V=12 & I=5. 12v•5A = 60 Watts The motor will require 60W of power.
Battery Weight (lbs) 4.3 Amperage (amps) 7 Voltage (volts) 12 Dimensions (inches) 5.9x2.5x3.7
Semester goals 1. Develop three proposed designs to the leaf compactor problem. 2. Determine which design or designs would be more viable. 3. Determine a viable power source. 4. Determine desired weight based on what people can handle.
Future plans Determine what material to use for various parts. Determine a method for compacting leaves once collected. Build/test a prototype. Find a use for the compacted leaves (if time allows).
