General Winter Vs. Nazis Hitler’s greatest mistake and an examination on why you don’t invade Russia in the winter. (Spoiler: Because Russia is bloody cold)

Operation Barbarossa Unable to defeat Britain, Hitler turns his attention to the Soviet Union. June 1941 The largest land invasion in history Over 3 million Germans poured into the Soviet Union.

Why? Low labor supply Desperately low on fuel, oil, and food. Most German men are in the military Wanted to use slaves from Eastern Europe Desperately low on fuel, oil, and food. Soviet Union has vast stocks of resources.

Nazi’s Smash Commies Initially devastate the Soviet Army Stalin is caught completely off guard June-December- Soviet Union lost 7 million soldiers in 6 months.

The Barbarossa Decree Allowed entire villages to be massacred after attacks on German soldiers German soldiers couldn’t be convicted against crimes on civilians Gave the German army a “license to kill”
