FIGURE 1 (A) Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis of DAX-1 transcript in seven testicular samples from azoospermic patients. A full-length transcript was detected in all tissues. (B) Representative samples: immunostaining (magnification ×10) for DAX1 performed in one Sertoli cell only syndrome (SCOS) sample, one maturation arrest sample, and one spermatogenic hypoplasia sample. Tissue sections were incubated with a specific monoclonal antibody directed against the DAX1 C-terminus. The immunoreactivity was visualized by diaminobenzidine; positive cells had a brown color at the site of reaction. The arrow indicates a positively stained extratubular Leydig cell. Mantovani.
