2BFUNTEX Project : Enabling technology transfer for more functional textile innovations Prof. Fatma KALAOGLU Istanbul Technical University, Turkey Project Coordinator : Prof. Paul KIEKENS, Ghent University, Department of Textiles Euro-Mediterranean Conference on Creativity, Innovation and IPR in Textile and Clothing Industry in the Euro-Mediterranean Area 24-25 March 2014

OUR Mission  faster industrial uptake 2BFUNTEX deals with closing the gap between research and industry in the field of functional textile structures and textile related materials exploiting the untapped technological potential fostering a multidisciplinary approach  faster industrial uptake

Open Innovation Platform (OIP) A Website with interactive databases and information system : www.2BFUNTEX.eu A meeting place for project ideas & partner search A training materials database Multidisciplinary project teams  to support transversal research to close the gap between industry needs and available technologies Conferences, workshops (for SMEs), brokerage events, training courses, …

If you are a research organisation : 2BFUNTEX will help you to present your current & future actions in research, education and technologies related to functional textile materials

If you are a company or a cluster : 2BFUNTEX.EU will be the place to visit in order to : Detect new technologies & business opportunities Offer your technologies Express your needs & technology requests Look for partners Be in contact with research teams across Europe

Multidisciplinary teams Start-up of 8 MDTs to identify gaps between available technologies and industrial needs and develop ideas for new collaborative projects : Antimicrobial textiles Smart textiles Nanotechnology Flame retardancy Biotechnology Electrospinning Plasma Sustainable textiles

Lessons learned Good dissemination tools developed Experienced people active in MDTs Less technologies available than expected  develop new technologies in MDTs Limited involvement of SMEs in technology transfer  provide information on 2BFUNTEX OIP Confidentiality issues

Consortium We are 26 partners from 16 countries, working together to transfer new functional textile technologies to the industry. 16 partners representing research & training 10 partners representing industry

The following multidisciplinary teams (MDT) were The following multidisciplinary teams (MDT) were formed within 2BFUNTEX Project. Antimicrobial Smart textiles Nanotech Flame retardency Biotech Plasma Ecotech Electrospinning

Each MDT has a reserach and an industrial leader. Workshops and meetings for these MDT’s are organized in every 6 months. IDEAS, VISIONS and STRATEGIES ARE FORMED for - State-of-the-art in these sectors, - Current collaborations/interactions with industries, - Identification of gaps between available technologies and expertise with medium/long term industrial needs, - How to overcome these gaps, - Strategies and actions to solve the gaps
