USE We use the past simple to talk about finished actions in the past. Yesterday I went to the cinema. I played tennis with Maria last week. My parents bought a house three years ago.

FORM The form of the past simple is the same for all persons. You like pizza = She likes pizza You liked pizza = She liked pizza + I stayed with a friend. - She didn’t do her homework. ? Where did you go? Did you like the film? Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.

REGULAR and IRREGULAR For regular verbs, add +ed. SPELLING RULES FOR REGULAR VERBS work stay worked stayed consonant > add –ed vowel + y> add -ed like liked add –d if the verb finishes in -e study studied consonant + y = the y drops and we add –ied. stop stopped consonant + vowel+ consonant = double consonant + ed
