SA is a participant in both beach and indoor volleyball SA is a participant in both beach and indoor volleyball. SA decides to compete in both beach and indoor volleyball competition throughout the summer. SA participates in a beach volleyball competition and receives prize money. How does the SA calculate their prize money? If the SA uses items, such as shoes, that can be utilized in both sports how should these be classified? May use these expenses to offset prize money as long as they are not duplicated. How does legislation apply to individual that participates in both beach and indoor volleyball? Calculation of actual and necessary expenses is sport specific. How do you classify items that are necessary to participate in both beach and indoor volleyball? Expenses for items that are necessary for participation in both sports may be used to offset prize money earnings, but may not be duplicated. Example
Proposal 2018-38 Delayed Enrollment Transfer Exception Transfer SA that triggers delayed-enrollment legislation must serve year in residence. Old Rule. Transfer SA that triggers delayed enrollment does not have to serve year in residence if: Previously enrolled FT for > 2 semesters or 3 quarters; and Completed average of > 12 hours of transferable credit each term. TRANSFER CERTIFIED WITH CONDITIONS How does legislation impact a transfer student-athlete that is certified with conditions? Legislation addresses the seasons of competition penalty portion for delayed enrollment violation. Student-athletes are still subject to the seasons of competition element.
Proposal 2018-40 Period Between Service Commitment and Enrollment PSA permissibly delays enrollment due to service/mission exception may not continue to compete in organized competition after service commitment before next opportunity to enroll. Old Rule. Allows PSA to continue to participate in organized competition during “gap” time following end of service/mission before next opportunity to enroll. Effective Immediately. Proposal 2018-40 Period Between Service Commitment and Enrollment Effective Date: Immediate; may be applied retroactively to student-athlete with eligibility remaining in his or her five-year period of eligibility.
SCENARIO January 2020: SA enrolls in a Division I institution. June 2019: SA is discharged from army. August 2019: SA’s first opportunity to enroll at collegiate institution. January 2020: SA enrolls in a Division I institution. Time period between discharge date and first opportunity to enroll qualifies SA for exception.
Proposal 2018-42 Definition of PSA – Summer Athletic Activities PSA until he/she: Enrolls FT, attends classes during regular academic year; Participates in regular practice/competition; Attends classes during summer term prior to FT enrollment; or Orientation session open to all incoming students within 14 days of regular term. 2018-45 Contact During Competition – Sports Other than Basketball On date of competition, no contact prior to competition. No contact with a PSA “on call”. No contact with PSA competing on consecutive days, in a tournament or on extended road trip until after final contest. Old Rule. Each day, contact may occur after competition when PSA is released by proper authority. Effective Immediately. 2018-45 Contact During Competition – Sports Other than Basketball
CONTACT – SPORTS OTHER THAN BASKETBALL Friday Team travel. Saturday Competition. Sunday Contact any time on Friday. Contact after release on Saturday and Sunday. *Football: if event is on institution’s campus, no contact until day after competition.

2018-54 Organization of Recreational Activities Coach may not organize or observe PSA’s recreational activities while visiting institution. Old Rule. Coaching staff may organize but not observe recreational activities during PSA’s visit. Current SAs, PSAs or athletics department staff members (e.g., athletic trainer) may not report back to coach. COMMON QUESTIONS AGENDA WORKOUT & APPAREL CARA Activities may be put on visit agendas. Coach may create workout – but cannot be designed to assess athletics ability (no tryouts). May not provide workout apparel. Current SA may not be required to participate as this triggers CARA. COMMON QUESTIONS

NLI still applies. 2019-11 (Non-Aided Graduate Transfer) Previous school did not offer athletics aid (Ivy League, service academy) and SA not recruited; or SA never received athletics aid as an undergraduate.
