Getting to know you What is the name of the Church you belong to? What is the name of the Lead Shepherd of your Church? What style of worship does your Church have? How many attend your Church? Who sets the vision/direction for the ministry of your Church?

Today’s Essential Question: What is it that determines Christian ethics and distinguishes a Biblical Worldview? Tonight we will: Discuss class expectations Define “Christian Ethics” Define “Biblical Worldview” Self Assess our Biblical Worldviews Examine the condition of the American Church

Class Expectations Weekly Prompts Adoration and appeal Process what you’ve learned Essay: Intro, body, conclusion At least two Scriptures At least two quotes from the text Proper Turabian style of footnoting Adoration and appeal No more than three minutes Use your imagination (lead in prayer, divide into groups, silent meditation, Scripture reading, etc.) No teaching, only prayer. Step up and start. No politics Center prayer around a Scriptural truth Make sure you also lead us to adore God Class Expectations

Christian Ethics Christian Ethics What is a Christian? What are ethics?

Christian Ethics Christian Ethics For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Corinthians 15-3-5 Ethics Ethos: habit, custom, or character Aristotle: Ethos refers to a man's character or personality, especially in its balance between passion and caution. What is good or bad, right or wrong

What does it mean if something is Biblical? Biblical Worldview Biblical What does it mean if something is Biblical? Worldview What is a worldview?

Biblical Worldview Biblical Worldview Founded on the Bible, the whole of Scripture, the Old and New Testaments Scripture: “Men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21) The Eleven Apostles: The witnesses of Jesus under power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:2-8) Paul’s letters (2 Peter 3:16) Worldview How someone views the world and his/her place in it The way someone thinks about the world

Biblical Worldview Having a view of reality, the world, and your place in it as defined by the literal interpretation of the Bible.

Circle the statement in each row you agree with Do you have a Biblical Worldview? Circle the statement in each row you agree with 1 Absolute moral truth does exist or Morals may or may not be absolute 2 The source of moral truth is found in the society/culture a person is raised in The source of moral truth is the Bible 3 The Bible is accurate in all the principles it teaches The Bible is not accurate for the principles of today 4 Eternal salvation is determined by earning God’s favor through obedience to Him Eternal salvation cannot be earned 5 Jesus lived a sinless life Jesus did not live a sinless life 6 Some Christian’s have the responsibility to share their beliefs with others, while others have different gifts Every Christian has a responsibility to share their beliefs with others 7 God is not all-knowing. He did not make the universe. He lets things move along as they want. God is the all-knowing, all-powerful maker of the universe who still rules that creation today 8 The character “Satan” is just a symbol of evil, not a real being Satan is a living force, a living being

What is a Biblical Worldview? Barna research defines it this way Absolute moral truth exists The source of moral truth is the Bible The Bible is accurate in all of the principles it teaches Eternal spiritual salvation cannot be earned Jesus lived a sinless life on earth Every person has a responsibility to share their religious beliefs with others Satan is a living force, not just a symbol of evil God is the all-knowing, all-powerful maker of the universe who still rules that creation today. https://www.barna.com/research/most-adults-feel-accepted-by-god-but-lack-a-biblical-worldview/, 2018

What is a Biblical Worldview? A snapshot of the Church in America 5% of adults have a biblical worldview 8% of protestants have a biblical worldview Protestant: Bible not inherent, but historical and must be interpreted through the ages; there are other ways to salvation; less concerned about conversion and more about the spiritual journey; spreading the word is more than just about conversion, it’s about making lives better. 50% of evangelicals have a biblical worldview .5% of Catholics have a biblical worldview Evangelical: Salvation through the atoning death of Jesus Christ alone; conversion through personal faith in Him, the authority/inherency of Scripture; personal responsibility to share faith, and the importance of preaching as contrasted with ritual

What is a Biblical Worldview? A snapshot of the Church in America 71% Southern Baptist 57% Baptist other than Southern Baptist 51% of protestant pastors have a biblical worldview Evangelicals included 44% Charismatic or Pentecostal 35% Pastors of black churches 86% of congregants DO NOT share the view of a pastor with a biblical worldview 28% Pastors of leading mainline denominations 27% Methodist https://www.barna.com/research/only-half-of-protestant-pastors-have-a-biblical-worldview/

What we learned: We: Discussed class expectations Defined “Christian Ethics” Defined “Biblical Worldview” Self Assessed our Biblical Worldviews Examined the condition of the American Church So, what’s your answer?
