Summer Success Academy Data Board Workshop – September 17, 2013

Goals of the Program Reducing the Summer Slide Increasing Student Confidence (Attitudes about School) Increased Student Retention (Graduation Rates of At-Risk Students)

Cohort Groups Pilot Program – Summer 2011 (Juniors) 1st Summer Success Group – Summer 2012 (Sophomores) Restructured the identification process to target students that can most benefit from the program 2nd Summer Success Group – Summer 2013 (Freshman)

Increasing Student Confidence & Attitudes About School The middle school staffs identified 95 at-risk students that could benefit from this program 48 students voluntarily attended (51%) 94% successfully completed and received math and English credit

Increased Retention and Graduation Rates of At-Risk Students 1st Summer Success Group – Summer 2012 (Sophomores) 48 Students that attended 47 Students who did not attend 26 Students are on track to graduate (55%) 22 Students received 1 E or more (45%) 22 E’s in math or English 24 Students are on track to graduate (49%) 23 Students received 1 E or more (51%) 19 E’s in math or English

Next Steps Continue to monitor the identification process for at- risk students who benefit from the Summer Success Program Building a mentoring program at the High School to continue to support the Summer Success students
