You may also mention the other literature, but FOCUS on the book on the list, please!

The Spectator by Joseph Addison Quickwrite: Whose opinions matter? Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe Quickwrite: How can a PLAGUE affect society? Summary: In these excerpts from Defoe, the narrator, a saddle-maker known only as H.F., describes plague-ridden London as a city altered by sorrow and the constant fear of death. He describes the pits in which the dead are buried and explains how people react to their own illness, the illness of family and friends, and the persistent threat of contagion. Assignment: You were asked to read and complete the 10 questions that accompanied the story on pp. 587. Did you do them?

Understanding Satire There is LOTS of great information on SATIRE contained on pp. 596-597 of your textbook. Read it and take notes today in class. Again, keep these notes in your English notebook, so you have access to STUDY them and possibly, use them, in the future!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation! Today’s Assignment Spectator or Plague – Handout and Quiz Due End of Period! Today you are being given 2 handouts. One is specific to the Spectator, the other The Plague. You MUST complete BOTH SIDES of the handout in class (independently at your desks) and then come see me for your QUIZ. Quizzes are due at the end of class. IF you get done early, you may opt to take a second QUIZ for extra credit. Be prepared to be QUIET and FOCUSED today. You will be asked to leave if you are unable to complete those two required tasks. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
