Figure 1 The ER-dependent maturation pathway. This process requires the insertion of Pex3p into the ER that then recruits Pex19p in order to produce membrane structures which have the capacity to import other peroxisomal membrane proteins (PMPs). This sequence of events leads to preperoxisomes that by importing matrix proteins mature to functionally competent organelles.
