Map Coordinates Review. Equator A line that divides the planet into northern and southern hemispheres Has a measure of 0 degrees of Latitude.
 Distance measure in degrees- from 0 o to 90 o North or South of the equator  Equator- primary reference point  Lines are called parallels- form complete.

Presentation transcript:

Absolute Location - the absolute location of a place is its exact set of coordinates on the planet, frequently expressed in degrees of longitude and latitude Latitude - latitude lines run flat east and west, and measure how far north or south you are from the equator Longitude - longitude lines run from the North Pole to the South Pole, and tell us how far east or west you are from the Prime Meridian Equator - an imaginary line around the Earth forming the great circle that is equidistant from the north and south poles; the equator is the boundary between the northern and southern hemispheres Prime Meridian - the meridian of 0 degrees longitude which runs through the original site of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, England Hemisphere - half of a spherical or roughly spherical body (such as a planet); specifically : the northern or southern half of the earth as divided by the equator, or the eastern or western half as divided by a meridian
