Managing the Institutional Repository for OA Khawulile Radebe: Librarian: Repository Administrator & Metadata

Institutional Repository Rhodes Digital Commons (RDC) is publicly accessible digital research archive consisting of more than 17 000 unique items

Librarian: Repository Administration & Metadata Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs) Service Delivery 10% Implementation of the digitisation strategy. Organising and making accessible the Rhodes University’s relevant digitised information resources/collections. Metadata management 40% Create appropriate metadata templates. Assign metadata to records. Create data maps and apply relevant schemas. Update or removal of records. Ensure data integrity on the Rhodes Digital Commons.

Librarian: Repository Administration & Metadata Digital collection development & Maintenance 20% Co-ordinating the University’s digital repository to ensure alignment with current goals and future strategies. Development of policies & guidelines. Assisting with the University’s digitisation projects in terms of scoping, planning, scheduling and monitoring. Digital Commons administration 20% Collating and analysing operational statistics of the Rhodes Digital Commons, and generate relevant reports. Ensuring compliance to depositor agreements and institutional policies (e.g. embargoes) Communicating with depositors and users to resolve problems with content Ensure appropriate workflows to manage the capture, description and preservation etc. of repository outputs

The Work Flow Theses and Dissertations Receive from the Registrar’s Office Check for embargoes Load on the RDC Articles, Conference papers, Book chapters, etc. Receive from The Scholarly Communication’s Office Integration of Faculty Liaison Librarians
