Review of 2019-2020 Application Process Complete your 2019-2020 FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov Complete Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at www.tapweb.org searching “SUC Fredonia” Complete the Excelsior Scholarship application before August 15th, 2019 at https://www.hesc.ny.gov/excelsior Complete & submit the 2020-2021 renewal FAFSA in October 2019
Financial Aid Awards Financial Aid awards are viewable online via YOUR CONNECTION. These awards and requirements can be regularly checked 24/7 Students should also be checking their Fredonia email account as it is considered the “official” means of communication between the student and the school.
Click on Award, and then click Award for Aid Year Accepting/Declining Student Financial Aid 1. Click the “Your Connection” link located towards the bottom of the home page 2. Enter your Fredonia ID# and PIN 3. Click Financial Aid 4. Click on Award, and then click Award for Aid Year
Accepting/Declining Student Financial Aid Cont. 5. Click the drop down menu, select the appropriate aid year, and then click Submit 6. Click Accept Award Offer tab 7. Under the Award Decision column, click the drop down box to either accept or decline your loan/work-study awards. 8. Click Submit Decision
Reviewing Student Requirements 1. Once again, sign into Your Connection, select Financial Aid, and then this time choose Eligibility. 2. From there select Student Requirements. 3. Here, you will be able to see what requirements have been established, and whether or not they have been satisfied.
Federal Verification Process Fredonia’s FAO is required to verify reported FAFSA data for the student’s selected by the Federal Government. Check the requirement section in Your Connection to see if you were selected for verification. Verification worksheets are mailed home, but can also be found on the Financial Aid website. Return all requested items to the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. All Federal Aid is put on HOLD until verification is complete.
Federal Direct Loan Requirements Student must accept loans on Your Connection Log into www.studentloans.gov using your FSA ID to: Complete Entrance Counseling Complete Loan Agreement for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan (MPN)
Accepting Work Study Positions If you have been awarded a work study position you must accept the award and complete the “survey” via Your Connection by July 31st
The Excelsior Scholarship Must have a combined federal adjusted gross income of $125,000 or less Must be a full-time student (12 credits per semester) and must have earned 30 total credits by the end of the academic year Applications are only available for a fixed period. Apply online now through August 15th for FALL 2019 at https://www.hesc.ny.gov/excelsior/
Refer to the SAP charts on the Financial Aid website Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Students must maintain good academic standing for the receipt of both Federal & State aid State aid and the TEACH Grant are reviewed at the conclusion of each semester Federal Aid Programs are reviewed once per year at the conclusion of the SPRING semester Refer to the SAP charts on the Financial Aid website
Alternative Financing Options Private Alternative Loans: Go to www.Fredonia.edu/finaid/Alt.asp Federal Parent PLUS Loan: Go to www.Fredonia.edu/finaid/PLUS.asp Fixed 7.08% interest rate with repayment beginning within 60 days after the second disbursement Online credit check, application, and loan agreement process If parent is denied, student may be eligible for additional federal direct unsubsidized loan funds
Appeal of Federal Aid This appeal is to help people whose finances have been altered by unforeseen circumstances. Examples may include… Loss of income in 2019 vs. 2017 Medical/dental out-of-pocket expenses NOT PAID by insurance Death, separation, or divorce 1-Time fluctuation in income in 2017 If one or more of these apply to you, please go to https://www.fredonia.edu/admissions-aid/financial-aid and fill out an Appeal of Federal Aid application form. Be prepared, you MUST provide documentation to support your claim.
