Exploring Relationships What do you mean by relationships? Looking at relationships in the novel Words we can use to describe relationships

Relationships in Literature… Asking you to EXAMINE and ANALYSE a character’s ‘relationship with another character’s.

In a text how we tell a relationship between characters are by looking at: Dialogue/Words exchanged Description of body language Description of facial expression

Examples… She sighed as soon as she saw him enter the room. He walked towards her and she tensed, bracing herself for his harsh words.

Another example… She laughed loudly at her joke, putting her arms around Susan’s shoulders.

Do you get it now? Some vocabulary you can use to describe relationships… Supportive, encouraging, hostile, cold, distant, encouraging, discouraging, close, personal, formal, informal

Now..let’s apply… What is Jimmy’s relationship with Mum like? What is Jimmy’s relationship with Aunt Pol like? What is Jimmy’s relationship with GI Joe like?
