April 27 & 28, 2011 Welcome Assigment Get Science Notebook Write the following questions, leave 2 – 3 lines of space between each. How do we know how ancient people lived? What do we call objects archaeologists find? How can archaeologists paint pictures of the past? What kinds of objects did you find in your dig? How does each represent something in the past?

Due today Tree map – all five parts (1 and 2 more detailed, 3, 4, and 5 a basic outline) Historical Analysis – Flow Map (2 blocks for past, present, and future) Paper – Paragraph #1 and 2 written Archaeological Dig Log and Map Pictures for power point (can do over the weekend, you will need to save on a drive we will not have internet at school next week because of HAS)

Tree Map for Mass Transit Project Paragraph #4: Give 2 – 3 possible alternatives to please the most role groups Paragraph #3: Describe the tentative rail route (what will the rail pass by along its way, businesses, schools, etc.) Paragraph #5: Out of the 2 – 3 alternatives, which is the best and why do you think it would be the best for Hawaii. Paragraph #1: Describe the place today Paragraph #2: Explain the artifacts you found in your archaeological dig and their significance, or meaning to the area’s culture, history, economy etc.

Paragraph #1 and 2 Paragraph #1: Describe the place today What would you see if you visited the area? What is the population? What is the breakdown of ethnic groups? At the end of your paragraph add a rhetorical question about rail. Example: What would rail do to the area? Support with actual data, and provide sources for the data Paragraph #2: Explain the artifacts you found in your archaeological dig and their significance, or meaning to the area’s culture, history, economy etc. Be sure to say that you did an archaeological survey of the area Provide sources to back up your statements

Paragraph #3 & 4 Paragraph #3: Describe the tentative rail route (what will the rail pass by along its way, businesses, schools, etc.) How will rail possibly impact the area? What are the current issues regarding rail in your area? Provide sources and information for impacts and issues Paragraph #4: Give 2 – 3 possible alternatives to please the most role groups Explain your different alternative solutions How will each alternative address the issues in your area?

Paragraph 5 and Reflection Paragraph #5: Out of the 2 – 3 alternatives, which do you feel is the best solution for Hawaii, please support with reasons. Remember to add a closing statement Reflection How will you be impacted by the implementation of mass transit?

Writing tips Organize your thoughts Your writing should be original, if you are using other people’s words, give them credit and put them in quotes. Make sure your information is accurate Write out contractions: example – can’t = can not Replace the word with “get” or other forms of the word with better, more descriptive words.
