Welcome to Magnolia Intermediate For the 2019-2020 School Year 30 minutes to present the entire ppt

About the Building 6th grade is on the second floor of the intermediate campus. The intermediate campus does not have lockers. PE and electives are on the first floor past the cafeteria. If you have any additional questions, I will answer those at the end of the presentation.

Academic Classes Students will have 6 classes during an 8 period day; math and ELA are double-blocked. Language Arts Math Science Social Studies Double block ELA and Math

On-level & Advanced Classes ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies offer both: On-level classes: provide students with instruction based on state standards are differentiated to meet the learning needs of all the students in the class Advanced classes: also provide students with instruction based on state standards are differentiated to reach students at an advanced level of synthesis and analytical processing focus on academic skills that will ensure success in advanced classes and/or International Baccalaureate and develop a student’s college readiness See pamphlets

How Do I Know If My Child Should Take Advanced Classes? These courses are designed to align with AP and IB courses in high school and therefore are more rigorous in nature. Students who perform at Meets or Masters on any STAAR test are encouraged to take advanced classes. Students may feel challenged at first. However, we find that most students quickly rise to meet expectations with support provided by the classroom teachers. We encourage all students to take at least one advanced class in 6th grade. It is the best opportunity to try an advanced class without impacting GPA If a parent asks about GT services please direct the parents to Sarah Etter

Electives Students attend electives each day. Students will choose 1 full-year elective: Art Band Choir Technology Applications Students are placed in their elective based on availability.

Elective Video: Choir

Elective Video: Technology Applications

Elective Video: Band

Elective Video: Art

Physical Education All 6th grade students have PE or Intro to Athletics once a day. Tennis shoes and uniforms are required for participation in PE/Intro to Athletics. All students can participate in after-school intramurals. However, Intro to Athletic students MUST participate in at least one. Available Options PE Students participate in game-based activities that fulfill state standards. Introduction to Athletics Students participate in conditioning, running, stretching and learn in-depth sports skills as an introduction to junior high sports. STRESS that intro to athletics students must participate in intramurals but all students can participate in intramurals Uniforms will be purchased at the beginning of the school year. Cost is approximately $15

Course Selection Course selections will be completed electronically at https://bit.ly/2U5ESsn or click on the hyperlink on MIS webpage. Course selections must be submitted online by April 16, 2019. Mrs. Duree will help any student that needs assistance in this process. Parents will receive a flyer will all pertinent details and links. If students don’t have internet access then Mrs. Duree will help students in their social studies classes

Cell Phones & Electronic Devices Phones are to be turned off when students enter the building. Phones and electronic devices are to be used for educational purposes only and only when directed and supervised by a teacher. Campus administration is required to investigate threats made through social media.

Discipline All teachers use a CHAMPS classroom structure, a positive behavior management plan.
