Welcome Students and Parents 5th Grade Open House

Changing Classes This year, your child will be passing classes for Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. He or She will have 3 or 4 teachers.

Conferences If you would like to schedule a parent conference with the 5th grade teachers, please call the front office. However, we also offer phone and email conferences.

Textbooks Parents, before you leave tonight, please sign and complete page 34 in the Code of Conduct booklet. The booklets will be found upstairs in your child’s homeroom.

Class t-shirts 5th grade will be ordering class t-shirts for field trips and special days throughout the year. The cost of the t-shirts will be $10.00. Each homeroom will have a different color.

Please note: The 5th Grade t-shirts are ordered from a separate company than PTA. Please check the Wednesday folders for the 5th grade order form for the class t-shirt.

Tentative Field Trips Chattanooga trip Camp McDowell Panoply These are a few of the planned field trips this year.

Snack Please provide a nutritious snack with your child daily. We will have a working snack daily.

Parent Communication If possible, please provide an email address for your child’s homeroom teacher. This will provide you with immediate classroom updates.

Homework Please check your child’s Rainbow Planner daily for homework assignments.

Absent Student If a student is absent, please contact the front office for assignments after 3 days.

Missing Assignment If a student fail to complete an assignment, he or she will complete a missing assignment form. He or she will have 3 days to complete the missing assignment. A late penalty of 15 points per day will be deducted from the assignment.

5th Grade Behavioral Plan Please review the behavioral plan with your child. Please sign and return to your child’s homeroom teacher.

Grading Scale

Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies Test and Projects make up 60% of your child’s grade. Quizzes, Daily Work, and Homework make up 40% of your grade.

Language Arts English make up 75% of the grade. Spelling make up 25% of the grade.
