Warm-Up Brainstorm any STEREOTYPES (true or false) you can think of about Chinese or Asians. Example: All Chinese people eat with chopsticks.

Common Asian Stereotypes Know kung fu. Good at math. Smart and make good grades. Strict parents. Women are subordinate to men. Eat rice and animals we have as pets (cats and dogs). Can’t drive. Can’t speak English. All from the same country (i.e. all “Asian,” not Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, etc.)

Common Chinese Stereotypes Are all of these true? Are some of these true?

Tiger Mothers Asian – especially Chinese – parents are known for being overly strict and extremely focused on academic and professional success. Known as “Tiger Mothers” after Amy Chua published a book in 2011.
