Employment for People with Learning Disabilities

The Law Government policy is that young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, including those with more complex needs, should be supported to develop the skills and gain the qualifications and experience they need to succeed in their careers. Local Authorities should start a support plan on employability at the age of 14 Is it happening?

Disabled employment support in Islington Citizen’s Advice Bureau Independent and confidential advice on employment. Open to all residents for drop in from Monday to Friday and one late evening (Thursday) per week. You can also call them on 020 7947 7771 (Monday–Friday 10am-1pm, 2-4.30pm)

Learning Disabilities: Employment support Community Access Project – Daylight This project provides one to one support for people to apply to jobs. These jobs are specially selected and designed for people with learning disabilities. Learning Disabilities: Employment support City and Islington College The college runs a variety of courses for students with learning disabilities, including catering, horticulture, arts and media, sports and leisure, woodwork and furniture making and retail. Currently all courses offer a qualification at either Entry Level 1, 2, 3 or Level 1 and most courses include an unpaid work placement. There is also a café and an external catering business run by students with learning difficulties.
