Tax Cap School Districts, since 2012-13, have been affected by the Tax Cap Law, often known as the 2% Tax Cap. The formula often results in a Tax Cap figure other than and often above the cited 2% figure. In 2019-20, Batavia City School District’s Tax Cap number is 4.69%. The District’s proposed Tax Levy increase for 2019-20 is $555,916 or 2.93%. The eight year average Tax Cap allowable increase is 3.95%. The actual eight year average Tax Levy increase is only 1.16% (or 2.79% less than average allowed). Over the past eight years, the District could have increased school taxes a total of an additional $4,101,696 or $512,712 per year.

The Budget The 2018-19 General Fund Budget is $50,518,573 Decrease in expenditures of $1,670,579 The projected school tax impact for a home assessed at $85,000 will be $53.54 or $4.46 a month (projecting school tax increased by the 2.93% school tax levy increase). Assessment figures are also subject to change which would impact the projection. The District qualifies, for the sixth consecutive year, for NYS Property Tax Rebate check, as a result of tax cap compliance Most likely, the NYS Rebate Check will offset the school tax increase paid
