Key Achievements in the Region WHO - FAMILY OF INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS NETWORK ANNUAL MEETING 2014 Report from the Regional Advisor – 16 October 2014 11-17 October 2014 Barcelona, Spain Regional Adviser Report Key Achievements in the Region All countries are aligned to Regional Plan for the Strengthening Vital and Health Statistics (DC48.R7, 2008). Four components: country, regional, corporative and global. From October 2013 the Latin American and Caribbean Network for the Strengthening HIS (RELACSIS per its acronyms in Spanish) focus on the following activities in regards FIC:

Regional Activities Update WHO - FAMILY OF INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS NETWORK ANNUAL MEETING 2014 Report from the Regional Advisor – 16 October 2014 11-17 October 2014 Barcelona, Spain Regional Adviser Report Regional Activities Update 3rd Meeting for the Latin American Network for CC and NRC for the WHO-FIC that become Iberoamerican (IB_WHO-FIC) with the inclusion of the Barcelona Center. Held in Mexico, April 2013. Agreements: to complete the Network ToR and define the 2014-15 WP for coordinating activities. Currently implementing: 2nd virtual course for coders in ICD-10 with tutors through PAHO virtual campus (12 countries, 24 tutors, 200 participants). Led by Mexico CC and NRC of Argentina. On line course for medical doctors to the correct filling out of death certificate. Available for all Spanish speaking countries through PAHO virtual campus. Led by Argentina, Mexico and Uruguay. Version in English is translating and piloting. Dissemination and implementation of MMDS for electronic coding of causes of death in 8 countries. Led by Mexico CC and INEGI.

Report from the Regional Advisor – 16 October 2014 WHO - FAMILY OF INTERNATIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS NETWORK ANNUAL MEETING 2014 Report from the Regional Advisor – 16 October 2014 11-17 October 2014 Barcelona, Spain Regional Adviser Report Regional Priorities Piloting the Spanish version of ICD-11; ICHI Alfa 2 and IRIS; Developing a position paper on conceptual and classifications consequences from going ICD-10 to IDC-11. Develop the 6th RELACSIS meeting to be held in November in Bogota, Colombia to: Evaluate activities disseminated in 2013-2014. Define lines of action to be implemented in the 2014-2015 WP. Implement the 4th meeting of the IB_WHO-FIC network to define CC and NRC participation and coordination in disseminating best practices among countries. Disseminate best practices in training and evaluating coverage and quality in CRVS offered by countries under South-South cooperation selected in plenary sessions.
