5 No-Cost Tips To help Hedgehogs in your Garden

1.Create a log pile to give insects a place to hide – its creating habitat for beetles and worms – the stuff that dreams are made of for hedgehogs. Bit like pizza to go for us!

2. Leave a little patch of your garden to grow wild. Dandelion roots are great for worms, you can eat the leaves in salads and they make great ground cover for beetles and the bees love the flowers.

3. Dont use chemicals. Hedgehogs are suffering the same plight as bees by ingesting pesticides and neonicitinoids through weed killers and slug pellets. Look for natural alternatives to alleviate your weed and slug problems.

4. Cut a small hole in the bottom of your fence to allow hedgehogs access to a route through all the gardens in your street. Ask your neighbours to do the same!

5. Start a Compost heap not only is this good for your own garden plants, its great for worms and insects who live off this organic matter.

Make a LOG PILE Make COMPOST DONT Spray Make HOLESGrow wildflowers What YOU can do?

So lots of things you can do for FREE Talk to your neighbours and ask them to help out with making some pathways that link the gardens in your street. Keep a wild patch, compost food & dont spray. Hedgehogs are declining at an alarming rate, they are becoming as endangered in this country as tigers are globally! Lets give them a fighting chance at least. Now you know what they eat, see if you can make the small changes in your garden to help them and then print out the page with the 5 Tips on and put it on your fridge to remind you. Encourage others to sign up as theres lots more information coming soon.

So what do Hedgehogs eat in the wild? Beetles – Caterpillars - Worms
