Welcome and Announcements Chimes Welcome and Announcements Greeting Each Other Ringing of the Bell

Prelude “Prelude” ~J.S. Bach Lighting of the candles

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Deuteronomy 30:9-14

And the Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all your undertakings, in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your soil. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, just as he delighted in prospering your ancestors,

when you obey the Lord your God by observing his commandments and decrees that are written in this book of the law, because you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you,

nor is it too far away. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross to the other side of the sea for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and

observe it?’ No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe.

*CALL TO WORSHIP AND INVOCATION L: Good morning, Gracious God. Thank you for getting us here this day. P: As we gather together, God of All, we ask that you open us up to the truth of your teaching.

L: Loving God, hear the questions we bring today: who, why, me? P: Gift us mercifully with the answers we need. L: Open our eyes and ears to your gentle and honest voice.

P: Open our hearts to receive your all-encompassing love. L: Sisters and brothers, all who are here, let us worship the God of Love.

P: Let us worship the God of love with all our heart and soul.

*HYMN #439 “In Christ There is No East…” v.1 In Christ there is no east or west, In Him no south or north; But one great fellowship of love Throughout the whole wide earth.

*HYMN #439 “In Christ There is No East…” v.2 In Christ shall true hearts everywhere Their high communion find; His service is the golden cord, Close-binding humankind.

*HYMN #439 “In Christ There is No East…” v.3 Join hands, disciples of the faith, Whate’er your race may be. All children of the living God Are surely kin to me.

*HYMN #439 “In Christ There is No East…” v.4 In Christ now meet both east and west In Him meet south and north; All Christly souls are one in Him Throughout the whole wide earth.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Dear God – love everyone? Really? We must be honest with you and say that is too much to ask. There are so many rotten, mean, even evil people out there.

We admit we often find it too hard to forgive, to be kind, to extend caring to those people. We confess that too often we are coarse or angry or snarky to those people.

Forgive us. We don’t want to be – we just cannot help it at times Forgive us. We don’t want to be – we just cannot help it at times. Strengthen us to move beyond the hate we feel in our hearts and forgive us when we express that.

Help us to know and still love our neighbor, whoever that is.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Sisters and brothers, God honors your honesty. We know that when we confess our sins, God is merciful and forgives us our sins. Know that you are forgiven this day.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON P: We receive your forgiveness, Lord God, and we will live our lives out of your merciful love. Amen.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Luke 10:25-37

Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. ‘Teacher,’ he said, ‘what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ He said to him, ‘What is written in the law? What do you read there?’ He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with

all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.’ And he said to him, ‘You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.’ But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?’ Jesus replied, ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of

robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down the road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed on the other side.

But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.” Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?’

He said, ‘The one who showed him mercy He said, ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’ L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.1 Make me a channel of your peace Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.1 And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.2 Make me a channel of your peace Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light,

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.2 And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.3 Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand,

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.3 To be loved as to love with all my soul.

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.4 Make me a channel of your peace It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving of ourselves that we receive,

*HYMN #2171 “Lord, Make Me a Channel…” v.4 And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

Installation of Zach Caloritis SENTENCES OF SCRIPTURE Lead a worthy life of the calling to which you have been called, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as we were called to the one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Installation of Zach Caloritis CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP We are called by God to be the church of Jesus Christ, a sign in the world today of what God intends for all humankind. The great ends of the church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine

Installation of Zach Caloritis worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world. The call of Christ is to willing, dedicated discipleship. Our discipleship is a manifestation of the new life we enter through baptism. Discipleship is both a gift and a commitment, an offering, and a

Installation of Zach Caloritis responsibility. Zach Caloritis, the grace bestowed on you in baptism is sufficient for your calling because it is God’s grace. By God’s grace we are saved, and enabled to grow in the faith and to commit our lives in ways that serve Christ. God has called you to particular service. Show your purpose by answering these questions:

Installation of Zach Caloritis Who is your Lord and Savior? Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Will you be Christ’s faithful disciple, obeying his word and showing his love? I will, with God’s help. Do you welcome the responsibility of this service because you are determined to follow the Lord Jesus, to love neighbors,

Installation of Zach Caloritis and to work for the reconciling of the world? I do. Will you pray for and serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love, relying on God’s mercy and rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit? I will, with God’s help.

Installation of Zach Caloritis Do you, members of Ogden Presbyterian Church, confirm the call of God to Zach Caloritis as a Trustee in the service of Jesus Christ? We do. Will you support and encourage him in this ministry? We will.

Installation of Zach Caloritis INSTALLATION PRAYER Faithful God, in baptism you claimed us; and by your Holy Spirit you are working in our lives, empowering us to live a life worthy of our calling. We thank you for leading Zach to this time and place. Establish him in your truth, and guide him by your Holy Spirit, that in your service he may grow in faith, hope, and love, and be

Installation of Zach Caloritis a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever.

Installation of Zach Caloritis BLESSING AND CHARGE Zach Caloritis, you are installed to service as a Trustee of Ogden Presbyterian Church. May the God of peace make you holy in every way, and keep your whole being, spirit, soul, and body free from every fault at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus,

Installation of Zach Caloritis giving thanks to God through him. Alleluia! Amen.
