Weighing up the Pros & Cons A facility that helps the user to produce the final product. It may often take the user through the process step by step A document that provides pre-set layouts and formats. A stored set of commands that can be replayed by pressing a combination of keys or by pressing a button. It enables the user to automate tasks that are performed on a regular basis They can save time for the inexperience user. A repetitive task can be performed using a simple instruction Consistency of layout and corporate image across all documents. Provides user with details of exactly which fields need to be included so nothing left out. There is no individuality in the end result They ensure no important information is forgotten The ones available may not be suitable for purpose Saves user time as document already set up It is harder for documents to be tailored to meet the needs of the audience May not always meet the needs of the audience (ie. If a presentation) Errors may occur if the conditions when the macro is run are different from those when it was recorded Inexperienced users can perform complex tasks by using them Inflexible – it may not do precisely what the user wants.
