Why a Generic EDI toolbox ? Objective Simplify the generation of GESMES messages Validation of data (format and codes) in order to avoid/reduce the time consuming process of data correction between Eurostat and the data providers Promote the use of EDI Supply Eurostat with good quality data in a standard format

Why it is easy? GENEDI is easy to install GENEDI is easy to configure GENEDI makes process analysis easy • User-friendly set-up, no specific computer skill required • Automatic installation • No administrator rights needed • Automatic uninstallation • Pre-configured files for included domains • Possibility of customised configuration (mail of configuration files) • User-friendly Graphical Interfaces • Contextual Help available from each graphical interface • Configuration is done only once and can be saved • Monitoring and archiving of all steps of the processing • Structured error reporting

What is the GENEDI toolbox? (1) GENEDI is a Flexible EDI toolbox Can use different input formats (CSV, FLR, GESMES) Data Validation Conversion to GESMES/CB format Transmission to Eurostat Two useful tools to pre-process input files Mapping module (to reorganise files structure) Transcoding tool (to change automatically old codes) Mapping files pre-configured for included statistical domains Optional automatic process Validation rules pre-configured for included domains Automatic process Optional use of Time Range Technique (reduce file size) Optional automatic process available (may or may not be included during set-up)

What is the GENEDI toolbox? (2) GENEDI is a Generic Tool • Source code and parameters are separate • Able to process most of current and future data set structures from different statistical domains • Flat structured configuration files easy to update • Flexible graphical interfaces

What are the advantages? (1) GENEDI is simple to integrate in your information system • You can define your own working folders to store input files to store output files • GENEDI makes use of tools available on most platforms: file manager, Internet e-mail, “zip” format • Can be launched from a command line allows batch processing allows scheduled processing • Portable works on a wide range of platforms (Windows 9x, NT, XP, Unix, Mac) independent from any other software

What are the advantages? (2) GENEDI is a Free software GENEDI is a key element for a full EDI communication GENEDI is simple and well documented Support • independent from any private company (e.g. Excel) • zero cost • source code available • Package available on CIRCA (EDI & Statistics group) • Can be used without any human intervention using the command line option set all GENEDI processes to automatic mode • phone, e-mail • CIRCA (FAQ, newsgroup, …)
