Learning Target Students will be able to evaluate a source based on criteria to determine if it is a good source to use for their research or not.

C – Currency R – Reliability A – Authority P – Purpose/Point of View

CURRENCY How recent is the information How recently was the website updated Is the information current enough for your topic

RELIABILITY What kind of information is included in the resource? Is the content of the resource primarily opinion? Is it balanced? Does the creator provide reference or sources for data or quotations?

AUTHORITY Who is the creator or author? Credentials? (education, experience, affiliation) Information about the author’s background? Is there a way to contact them? Who is the published sponsor? Are they reputable? (well respected, creditable) What is their interest in the information? Are there advertisements?

PURPOSE/POINT OF VIEW Is this fact or opinion? Does the author cite references or list sources? Is it biased? Does the author seems to be trying to push an agenda or side? Is the creator/author trying to sell you something? What is the intent of the website? What is the domain (.edu, .org., .com)? How might that influence the purpose/point of view? Who is the intended audience?
