Napoleonic Wars A series of wars fought between France, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, and England, Prussia, Russia, and Austria. These wars took place, on and off, between 1799-1815.

Marbury v. Madison The Supreme Court case of Marbury v. Madison (1803) was the first case in which the court declared an act of Congress to be unconstitutional. The ruling established the Supreme Court's power of judicial review and solidified the court as a coequal branch of government, reinforcing the doctrine of the separation of powers.

Judicial Review Ruling by the Supreme Court that allows the Court to review a legislative act and decided whether or not it is Constitutional.

Louisiana Purchase Territory in the western United States purchased from France in 1803 for $15 million; extends from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada
