Figure 1 The AKT2 pathway is induced by mTORC2 under conditions of podocyte stress such as that seen in clinical conditions associated with nephron loss. When activated, AKT2 acts to protect the podocyte through inhibition of apoptosis, as well as through downregulation of RAC1, which otherwise would lead to podocyte foot-process effacement.
