Day 3 OOI Breakout: How can the OCB community best use OOI assets and data? Participants: Ruhl, Coble, Lohrenz, DeGrandpre, Daly, Benway, Walker, Ammerman, Taylor NEXT STEPS FOR OCB Form OCB subcommittee or expand OTSAC charge to evaluate OCB science priorities/ questions from workshop relative to OOI infrastructure/sensors. Valuable OCB activity to review OOI science plans/sensors and provide specific suggestions for community research needs. Possible small changes of sensors within budget (e.g. optical sensors), identify needs for proposal-driven community sensors. Inform Cyberinfrastructure IO on what needed to investigate science questions. Request funded OCB workshops consider OOI assets and sites in planning efforts if appropriate.

3) Consider a scoping workshop for discussing OCB and OOI capabilities (incorporate OOI focus into scoping workshop solicitation for 2010 workshop?): Purpose would be to 1) Develop OCB science plan using OOI assets and 2) Develop OOI user groups within OCB. Focus on OOI initially, then potential to incorporate additional observing systems later on, including international (Canada, EUR) collaborations Define what OCB science can benefit from time-series OOI data. Define mesoscale process studies in vicinity of existing global/regional/coastal OOI sites. What additional community sensors (proposal-driven) would be useful to address OCB-relevant questions? Evaluate model capability for OOI regions/ needed development Evaluate what would be required from Cyberinfrastructure (data support/models)
