Theme This unit focuses on developing listening and speaking skills concerning shopping including finding directions so that students can go shopping by themselves to big markets like E-mart.

Language foci  1. Communicative Functions   ∙ Asking directions with "Where is ____?" "Where are _____?"      ex) Where is the toy corner? Where are the robots?   ∙ Use of various prepositions (on, to, in front of, across, next to)         ex) You can find the power rangers next to the teddy bear.    ∙ Counting money using ex) “How much is it?” “ It’s $5.”   ∙ Clerk’s expressions using ex) "May I help you?" , "Can I help you?"

Objectives  ⒜By the end of this unit Students will be able to find the section of specific items in the Market .   ⒝Students will be able to buy things by themselves in real situation.  ⒞Students will be able to count the money easily.  ⒟Students will be able to use some prepositions correctly ⒠Students will be able to differentiate the sound of /r/ from /l/ and /f/ from /p/ and pronounce them correctly.

Little Sangki : Yes, I am looking for power rangers. Clerk : Of course, look at them next to the teddy bears. Little Sangki : Where? Clerk : Follow me. Clerk : How about this one? Little Sangki : Cool. I like it. How much is it? (I like them . How much are they?) Clerk : It's $ 5. (They are $10) Little Sangki : I'll take it (I'll take them) Clerk : Here you are. Little Sangki : Thanks. <At Exit> Little Sangki : Excuse me! Clerk : May I help you? Little Sangki : I am looking for toy robots. Clerk : Sure, go straight passing 2 aisles. Activity Ⅴ (5) Speed relay competition     ∙Materials : A map of the E-mart, item cards        - Step 1: Prepare 2sets of 10 sheets of paper which one item written on each.      [ r ]robot, right, teddy bear     [ l ]looking, left, will      [ f ]telephone, flower               [ p ]Power ranger, pass, soap   - Step 2 : Put up a map of a large grocery store where the 20 items can be purchased    - Step 3 : Break a class into 2 groups.   - Step 4 : One explainer comes up to the front from each team and explain where to go in order to buy the specific item written on the paper.   - Step 5 : The rest of students answers the specific section on the map   responding to the explanations.   - Step 6 : Correct answer gets one point each.

Activity Ⅵ   (6) Preposition quiz (Activity)     ∙ Materials : classroom setting    - Step 1 : A teacher says to students what to do.               (The sentence includes various prepositions)     ex.) Teacher : Sit under the desk.    - Step 2 : Students do what the teacher says in action.      ex.) Student : Sitting under the desk. (action)

Follow-ups  1. Showing flash cards, have student read them aloud. 2. Have students explain what they bought last week and describe how they get there in the market. 3. Open a little market as a school and have students buy items in English with play money.

Assessment  1. Giving an assignment that students describe how to get power ranger in the near market where they live. Students need to write and turn in, and need to describe it in front of class.  2. A Teacher take a role of a clerk in the market. Students pay the price and buy the items. (Make sure that students feel comfortable when they are speaking English)  3. Blue and white flag game      If you listen to /r/ sound raise blue flag, if you listen to l sound raise white one. If you listen to p sound raise blue flag, if you listen to f sound raise white one.  4. Moving power ranger on the board.      Materials : class setting map on the board, power ranger figure .     - Teacher gives statement about what the power ranger is doing.      Students move the power ranger according to the statement.       ex. Teacher : The power ranger is sitting under the desk.            Students : Put the power ranger figure under the desk.
