(CARRIER OPTIMAL ROUTING) STREET VALIDATION AND DATABASE PREPARATION COR (CARRIER OPTIMAL ROUTING) TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL STREET VALIDATION AND DATABASE PREPARATION

IMPORTANT RULES FOR STREET VALIDATION: PRINT THE ROUTE MAPS THAT YOU PLAN TO USE FOR VALIDATION LARGE ENOUGH TO RECORD THE DATA LEGIBLY. ZOOM INTO THE AREAS THAT NEED TO BE ENLARGED AND PRINT THEM SEPARATELY. WRITE CLEARLY. REVIEW APPENDIX B IN THE DATABASE PREP MANUAL. RECORD THE FIRST AND LAST DELIVERY BEFORE EVERY INTERSECTION ON ALL OF THE STREETS THAT INTERSECT. INDICATE THE STREETS WHERE DELIVERY OCCURS ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE STREET. MAKE NOTES THAT WILL HELP YOU AND OTHERS.

IMPORTANT RULES FOR DATABASE PREPARATION: ALWAYS FOLLOW THE NDSS STREET RANGES – DO NOT USE THE ACTUAL ADDRESSES FOR THE RANGES. USE THE “MANUAL MOVE” CAPABILITY ONLY WHEN NO OTHER OPTION IS AVAILABLE. CHECK AND RE-CHECK THE TOPOLOGY ON EVERY STREET AND CONFIRM IT IN THE DATAVIEW.

ADDITIONAL VALIDATION TIPS: MOST RESIDENTIAL VALIDATION CAN BE COMPLETED USING ONE PERSON. USE AN ADDITIONAL PERSON AS A DRIVER IN AREAS WHERE A SAFETY ISSUE COULD OCCUR SUCH AS CONGESTED BUSINESS AREAS. USE YOUR BEST RESOURCE – LOCAL KNOWLEDGE - WHENEVER YOU ARE IN DOUBT. PLAN YOUR ZONE VALIDATION TO AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL BETWEEN ROUTES THAT YOU ARE VALIDATING.

OTHER HANDY VALIDATION HINTS: Make as many Notes as possible. They will be helpful to the person completing Database Preparation and to those conducting the Route Adjustment processes. Note which Businesses might require Priority Delivery to assist later in the Line of Travel (LOT) process. Make sure to review the Examples in Appendix B of the Database Prep Training Manual. Note One-Way Streets, Parking Restrictions, and Turn Restrictions whenever possible. (Don’t fixate on these because they will be reviewed in the LOT process). Back Up your work Daily!
