Disciplinary processes in hockey

What are the different types of offences? Red Card Offence Match Day Misconduct Offence Disrepute Offence (separate form) RED CARD – ONLY ISSUED IN RESPECT OF AN OFFENCE OR OTHER MISCONDUCT DURING A MATCH TO ANY PERSON PARTICIPATING IN THE MATCH, ON THE PITCH, SUBS AND TEAM OFFICIALS OFFENDING TEAM HAS TO TAKE A PLAYER OFF THE PITCH FOR THE REST OF THE GAME IF A RC IS GOVEN TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT ON THE PITCH AT THE TIME

Red Card Form ONLY TICK ONE BOX!

Category (d) Red Card 2 separate, but the same, MINOR offences, for which a yellow card was awarded for the first offence. Show a second yellow card, followed by the red No further suspension after the end of the game, but player should leave the playing area A Minor Offence does NOT involve: Any used, attempted, or threatened, physical violence Any dissent towards an umpire, properly appointed tournament or match official

Process after having given a Red Card Ensure your colleague is aware that you have given a red card Inform the player, and ensure they leave the playing area Collect details of the ‘offending’ player’s name/playing number etc Check whether they are under 18 NEVER discuss possible penalties in the bar afterwards Complete the form – needs to be ACCURATE and FACTUAL The form must be sent to the relevant County CDA within 72 hours If an MMO, inform the offender (and a club representative) ON THE DAY OF THE MATCH

Some facts and figures Last Season in the South (across 8 Counties) there were : 62 Red Cards 9 MMOs 10 Disrepute Offences (8 of which came from one match in Oxford and resulted in 7 players receiving suspensions of 12 months) 5 incidents reported to CDAs as Cat d offences that have been overruled because they should have been straight red cards A number of complaints/appeals from Clubs based on what they have been told by the umpire afterwards

Some issues from last Season One player played the next day in a Cup Match A Club were told there wouldn’t be a ban as it was a ‘Match Day Red’ Umpire apologised for giving a red card, but said it would only be a 16 day ban A Club used video evidence to prove an umpire wasn’t close to the incident

To conclude Make sure you know the difference between the various types of offence Don’t discuss what may or may not happen next Be accurate when completing the form QUESTIONS??
